I recently did a remix of “Ball Real Hard” for my friends Sweet Vans from Columbia, South Carolina.  I met them at a show in Cola. I was playing.  At the time I was collaborating with Toro Y Moi (basically djing his tunes so he could sing/play keys) and visiting the state capitol on a regular basis.  That show in particular was a very fun night.

This jam is one of my favorites that Sweet Vans does live…that and “Argentina”(seriously…Mark Sanford).  I hope you enjoy this tune.

Every music writer I know missed the boat on this 2007 album. Recorded at Dub Narcotic by friend of B C N C Nic Zwart (Desolation Wilderness, Electric Sunset), this is more than Northwest stoners doing sloppy (sloppier?) Fela. It’s nearly every important underground musician in Olympia and Portland coming together to touch the face of the universe speaking in a musical language that has proven itself across all cultures. James Brown -> Fela -> Ethiopiques -> Talking Heads -> Etc. “If your eyes see no lesson. And your ears hear no lecture. And you can’t find a teacher. Don’t deny the existence of her.” And yes, they were stoned. Fuck you.
